Your Photographic Talents Recognised in DRCReview
Mike Kagered snapped on the line by Eurodragster.com's Sharkman, who is one of the competition judges. Because of the "on-the-edge" nature of Top Fuel cars, when they do let go the results are usually spectacular
15.6.06. This week we are launching our amateur photographic competition in DRCReview. There must be many photographers out there who have some great images from their visits to Santa Pod Raceway this year, and we’d like to give you the chance to show off your talents.
What we are looking for is one or two digital images (1meg maximum each) of your favourite drag racing shots. They can be static or action photos, of people, racers or other subjects. The only stipulations are that they must have been taken at Santa Pod’s drag race meetings in 2006, by a non-accredited photographer, and from the spectator areas at either side of the track or from the ‘barn’.
The person who takes what our experts judge to be the best photograph will walk away with a great prize – two free weekend tickets, very kindly donated by Santa Pod Raceway, to the European Finals, September 7-10. In addition, to provide you with some pocket money for the event, STP, who have been involved in drag racing almost since its inception, have very kindly stepped up with a £50 cash prize. To help you concentrate on your photography, Peltor UK is providing a pair of its highly effective Optime 2 ear defenders, which incorporate unique liquid/foam sealing rings (“Our hearing protectors are designed to be so comfortable, you might forget you're wearing them,” says Peltor).
If all that isn't enough, USAutomotive is providing some creative inspiration, by generously donating a copy of Steve Reyes’ fabulous photographic record of drag racing in the US – “Quarter Mile Chaos”. This is a great combined prize, worth around £200, so get those entries in now to stand a chance of winning.
Entries will be judged by professional photographers Ian Messenger and Sharkman from Euro Dragster.com, and the images will be included in a forthcoming feature – or two – in DRCReview.com. Entries close at midnight on August 10, which leaves you plenty of time to capture that winning shot at the ‘Pod, if you haven't taken it already. The winner will be announced in mid-August, and the prize posted out shortly after that. A unique, limited-edition STP T-Shirt and cap will go to the runner-up.
To enter, just send your images and contact details to: email@example.com and we’ll do the rest.
Please remember, we don’t need large file sizes – a maximum of 1 meg is fine, and be sure to let us know your camera/exposure/shutter details for each picture.
Special thanks go to all our prize sponsors and judges for making this competition possible in the first place.
Good luck and happy snapping!
Another great shot by Sharkman taken at the Easter Thunderball. Short wheelbase cars and plenty of horsepower are always likely to produce spectacular results like this
