NSRA Hot Rod SuperNationals

The NSRA’s SuperNationals at Old Warden Park, Biggleswade (July 29-31st) is the undoubted highlight on the NSRA calendar and as in previous years, did not disappoint for 2005 with a great turnout of street rods and participants from around the globe.

This year's event followed a similar patern to 2004 and the only dampener on an otherwise festive weekend was the drizzly weather on Saturday evening, but as most people were inside the giant marquee listening to the T-Rex tribute band, this was a small price to pay.

Having a fun fair as a backdrop to the event not only gave the kids somewhere to go and enjoy themselves, while the adults propped up the bar, but it provided a colourful contrast, and a perfect photo setting on Saturday evening with the cars lined up in the show ground – if only I’d remembered my camera tripod!

The event’s Saturday cruise saw a huge contingent of rods taking part, leaving the main arena almost empty and traders very quiet, while Sunday’s regular show and shine restored the balance with a fabulous display of rods matched only by the weather.  It seemed as if there were fewer rods taking part compared to last year, however, as in previous years, the quality of rods on display was extremely high.  Again, John Price provided his enthusiastic commentary.

Pete Angel's unrestored 'A' may look tame but packs a blown V8

This year, US pinstriper Herb Martinez was invited as special guest and gave seminars over the weekend about his special art to an enthusiastic following.  Additionally, he prepared a special  trophy which was awarded to the best pinstriped car at the prizegiving on Sunday.

Talking of which, the star prize this year was a steel repro '32 roadster body mounted to a matching rolling chassis - a truly major prize!

Full credit is due to David Biggadyke and the NSRA team for putting on another great rodding event.
